Fem Modeling of Pebble Bed/structural Wall Separation

چکیده
This work has developed FEM models of ceramic breeder pebble beds and applied them to two categories of blanket design (edge-on and layer configurations) to predict the thermomechanical behavior of a pebble bed under ITER pulsed operating condition. To explore the pebble bed/structural wall separation phenomenon, a thermomechanical contact is considered using contact elements meshed along pebble/structure interface. The pebble bed/wall dynamic contact/separation process has been simulated, and the gap distance distribution and variation have been analyzed and presented. Pebble bed/wall separation occurs during the plasma-off period and varies with both location and time. A maximal radial gap of 0.64mm is found for an edge-on configuration after the 1 ITER cycle within the range of studied parameters. For the layer configuration, a poloidal gap of 1.99mm, larger than the pebble diameter, is found. The generated gap can cause the even large rearrangement of pebbles and result in a disturbed packing during further cycling. Consequently, a design solution is suggested to mitigate this situation.

With the growing population and density in metropolitan areas, higher tendency to live in high-rise buildings, and increasing demand for parking lots, it seems necessary to excavate soil to construct underground spaces. During excavation work, as the height of the wall increases, special care should be taken to the wall stabilization to avoid any consequent damage including extensive property d...

Double heterogeneity of randomly located pebbles in the core and Coated Fuel Particles (CFPs) in the pebbles are specific features in pebble bed reactors and usually, because of difficulty to model with MCNP code capabilities, are neglected. In this study, characteristics of HTR-10, Tsinghua University research reactor, are used and not only double heterogeneous but also truncated CFPs and Pebb...

In this paper, effects of the cross shore and groyne wall slopes on flow parameters around an impermeable groyne were considered using a three-dimensional numerical CFD model (i.e., FLUENT). The k-ε turbulence model was used to evaluate the Reynolds stresses. The model was first applied to a vertical groyne on a flat bed and the model results were compared with the relevant experimental data. T...

For the first time, nuclear properties are experimentally examined on the water cooled pebble bed blanket by using DT neutrons with two partial mockups; multi-layered mockup with water and pebble bed mockup. Prediction uncertainties are clarified on tritium production rate (TPR) through the experimental analyses. From the multi-layered mockup experiment, it is found that integrated tritium prod...
